Pet Vaccinations

Preventative Health Care

Vaccinations are an important part of preventative health care for dogs, cats and rabbits. As well as keeping your own pet safe from the risk of serious disease, routine vaccination helps to reduce the chance of disease outbreaks in the pet population. The more people who vaccinate their pets, the less likely an outbreak in the local area!

Dog Vaccinations

Puppies can start their first vaccination course from 6 to 8 weeks of age with the second injection given 4 weeks later. The main diseases to protect against in dogs are Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis, all of which are covered in our vaccination course.

Once vaccinated, dogs should have yearly boosters to keep up immunity. If your dog has missed their booster by more than 2 months, always seek advice from the vet, as they may need to repeat the initial vaccination course to ensure continued protection.

‘Kennel Cough’ needs a separate vaccination. It is airborne-spread and vaccination is recommended when several dogs meet together such as in training, shows, and kennel environments. The vaccination lasts for 12 months.

Cat Vaccinations

Kittens can start their first vaccination course at 9 weeks with the second injection given 3 weeks later. The main diseases to protect against in cats are Feline Influenza, Enteritis and Feline Leukemia.

Once vaccinated, cats should receive annual booster vaccinations. If your cat has missed its booster by more than 2 months, always seek advice from the vet, as they may need to repeat the initial vaccination course to ensure continued protection.

Rabbit Vaccinations

Rabbits can be vaccinated from 8 weeks old. They only need one injection for their initial course of vaccinations, which protects them against VHD and Myxomatosis. They should receive annual booster vaccinations to ensure continued protection.

Another vaccination is also advisable. This is called the RHVD2 vaccination. This vaccination covers your rabbit against a new strain of Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease that is not covered in the VHD and Myxomatosis vaccination.
